One connected picture, built from three data threads

Blue Corridors for Turtles aggregates the nesting sites, migratory routes and feeding grounds of genetically distinct sea turtle populations – bringing satellite tracking, nesting, and genetic data together at the global scale strengthening our global understanding of sea turtle populations and driving policy action.

Connect the Dots

Compile nesting, satellite tracking and genetic data from partners across every ocean basin to identify and help bridge knowledge gaps, while strengthening collaboration across marine turtle communities.

Map Connectivity

Combine movement and ShellBank genetic data to create a global picture of marine turtle connectivity, assess exposure to threats, and identify populations most at risk and those requiring the greatest protection.

Establish IMTAs

Use this integrated evidence base to help support the IUCN-SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group in formally delineating Important Marine Turtle Areas (IMTAs) – areas significant for the persistence of marine turtles.

Drive Action

Advocate for connectivity and IMTA integration into policy and management to strengthen regional conservation efforts, action and protection in support of the long-term recovery of marine turtle populations.

Announcing the First Round of BC4T Small Grants Recipients

We’re excited to announce the first recipients of the Blue Corridors for Turtles (BC4T) Small Grants Fund, which received 127 proposals from 56 countries! Grants awarded to projects in eleven countries will enhance our understanding of turtle movements and nesting patterns.

New global initiative to map blue corridors for turtles

A new WWF-coordinated initiative, Blue Corridors for Turtles, aims to close critical gaps in marine turtle and ocean conservation. Launched on World Sea Turtle Day, this multi-partner initiative seeks to support the establishment and prioritisation of Important Marine Turtle Areas (IMTAs) to enable effective transboundary conservation measures to reverse the decline of marine turtle populations.
